Recent research has identified chamomile’s specific anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-allergenic and the aromatic lavender flower has natural antiseptic and astringent properties. This recipe also uses Lemon juice, which contains one of the AHAs or Alpha Hydroxy Acids which is citric acid. It works by sloughing off dead skin, promoting skin elasticity, and enabling new skin cell growth rise from underneath. It also flushes out pores and keeps your skin feeling fresh and bright.

Kaolin clay helps in removing blackheads and dirt from the skin and skin pores. It also absorbs excessive oil from the skin making it soft and smooth. It is also one of the most important ingredients in many bath wash soaps. Oats are also highly absorptive, hypoallergenic, and help to soften skin. They have the best amino acid balance of all the cereal grains (amino acids work as water-binding agents in skin care products). Oats have also been clinically shown to help heal dry, itchy skin. Pin oats are the best because they are the finest but any oats will do.

Throw the camomile and lavender flowers in to a pan and then add the lemon juice and rind. Cook the mixture over a low heat for 5 minutes. Leave to cool. Strain the mixture through a sieve in to a bowl. Add enough clay powder or oat meal to make a thickish consistency that is easy to smooth over your face, you don’t want it too runny. Apply to a clean face and allow to dry for around 10 minutes). Wash off with tepid water then pat face dry. The mixture will keep for up to a week in the fridge; try to make sure that you don’t put dirty hands in to the mixture as it might spread bacteria.
