Although there are many different types of arthritic conditions, arthritis is usually thought of in two categories: osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis is the natural wear and tear of our joints, the surfaces becoming rougher as the cartilage that surrounds them thins. Rheumatoid arthritis is an auto-immune disorder that leads to inflamed and sometimes deformed joints as a result of the body’s defences attacking its own cells.
Herbal treatments for arthritis might include detoxifying the system and increasing circulation such as by drinking, for example, an infusion of celery seed that can remove acidic toxins or even flushing out the system with a teaspoon of turmeric powder in a cup of milk. Some herbalists recommend simply eating chopped parsley to remove toxins or improving circulation with an infusion of ginger. Feverfew and meadowsweet are also herbs that are regularly recommended for arthritis. Always consult a medical professional with any chronic pain or condition.
