Cuts and Wounds
Even a small cut or wound should be cleaned thoroughly but any larger open wound should receive medical attention as soon as possible, after being covered with a dry dressing. Smaller cuts should be cleaned to remove any dirt or bacteria.
There are many different herbs and plant extracts that have antiseptic properties such as distilled Witch Hazel or fresh Aloe Vera gel. Tincture of Myrrh or Marigold (Calendula) are also good alternatives for use on a dressing but Marigold (Calendula) cream is perhaps the most soothing herbal treatment for a minor cut. Comfrey ointment is a powerful astringent, a substance that binds body tissues, however it’s important to note that Comfrey is so powerful that the wound must be extremely clean otherwise it can seal dirt in the wound.
